‘HeARTwork: Advancing the Inclusive Economy &
Empowering Women in the Workforce to Lead’

Dr. Overall was the lead researcher on the three-year project funded by the Government of Canada through the Ministry of Women and Gender Equality. The intentions of this project involved:

1. Enhancing resources and partnerships to promote equality for women in the labour force;

2. Strengthening collective action to support equality for women in the labour force;

3. Advancing systemic change to support equality for women in the labour force.

To achieve these aims, Dr. Overall advanced two phases of research. In phase one, he conducted a qualitative needs assessment of 54 participants from six cities across Canada to gain a deeper understanding of the: emotional, social, and economic barriers that women face within corporate Canada. The main themes were related to: mental health, work-life imbalance, toxic workplace, and discrimination. In phase two, Dr. Overall conducted a large-scale quantitative assessment of 367 full-time female employees in Canada. The main findings of this study were that: 50% of respondents are displaying symptoms of burnout, 76% are in a state of work-life imbalance, 33% are experiencing depression/anxiety, and nearly 40% are experiencing challenges with addictive tendencies.

Understanding the antecedents and the outcomes of spiritual awakening

In partnership with the Samadhi Centre and the Global Institute for Conscious Economics, Dr. Overall is the lead investigator on a research project involving spiritual awakenings. The intentions of this project involve:

1. Understanding the antecedents and outcomes of kensho awakenings;

2. Understanding the impact of ego on awakening;

3. Enhancing programing to stimulate more awakenings among various populations.

To achieve these intentions, Dr. Overall is advancing two phases of research. In phase one, he is conducting an exploratory qualitative assessment by interviewing several individuals who have experienced kensho awakenings. With knowledge of the main themes of awakening, a qualitative comparative analysis (fs/QCA) is to be conducted to model the various combinations of variables that lead to awakening. From the knowledge gained, in phase two, a large-scale quantitative assessment is to be conducted to generalize these findings among the greater population.
